OBJECTIVES
The Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) is the signature international conference hosted by the Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia. This year, the 35th APR was themed “Sustaining Cooperation Amid Competition”, focusing on sustaining cooperation amid competition.
It reflects the condition of the region that remains in the throes of strategic and major power competition while stakeholders continue to find ways of cooperation to mitigate the damaging aspects of competition. It is also an acknowledgement of the growing importance of climate and sustainability-related challenges in the region that will impact existing strategic security challenges and equations.
CHALLENGES
Hosting a large international conference like the 35th APR presents a number of challenges. With the great experience from the previous year, ISIS Malaysia sets higher expectations for its second year of virtual access. One of the biggest challenges was attendees management, including registration and accreditation of attendees, and the set up of the event landing page. A well-rounded and engaging program that meets the needs and interests of attendees is critical to be revealed on the event landing page to drive huge traffic.
Another challenge highlighted is the accessibility and engagement of the virtual platform. This requires various professional roles including producer, Q&A moderator, tech support, etc to ensure the whole program runs smoothly.

RESULTS
The 3-days virtual conference attracted more than 400 attendees with active participation throughout the five sessions. ISIS Malaysia has extended their promise that the 36th Asia-Pacific Roundtable will reconvene next year.
