On 16th March, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made an announcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia. The MCO was started on 18th March and took an effect that lasted for 14 days. It aims to bring the exposure of Japanese culture including arts, fashion, food, travel, and education while maintaining a good relationship between Japan and Malaysia. This year, JEMY 2020 was set to go virtual via their Youtube and Facebook account on 18th – 19th July. Featuring celebrities such as AKB48, Naomichi Hanazono, Le Velvets, and 72 more artists, the online event included live demonstrations, concerts, exhibitions, and online contests. The virtual event was also having a collaboration with GrabFood which allowed Malaysian to enjoy the food delivery services from the local Japanese restaurants. By this opportunity, JEMY 2020 had reached a broader global audience.

2. U Mobile #GroovesWithU 

#GroovesWithU is a Raya Special is a virtual campaign organized by U Mobile, collaborating with Malaysian artists and businesses. There was a series of music performances streaming online through U Mobile’s Instagram account for free, featuring the artistes such as Airliftz and Aina Abdul. The finale U Mobile #GroovesWithU Raya Special was a virtual concert streamed via U Mobile’s Youtube channel on 30th May. The artistes were Yuna, Airliftz, Bil Musa, and more. The campaign was aimed to spread the positivity to support the local businesses and talents through this pandemic.

3. #MuzikDiRumah

With over 300 artistes and musicians, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry had organized a virtual concert #MuzikDiRumah, inspired by #togetherathome project by the international artistes. This program included eight 45 minutes mega concerts, 38 half-hour mini-concerts, and 84 performances, featuring Ayda Jebat, The Rain, and more, broadcasting via their Youtube Channel. The program had brought more digital content for Malaysians to succeed to encourage Malaysians to stay indoors during the MCO. It also had an economic impact to generate the income for the artists and production crews.

4. JaoTim KL Live

JaoTim KL was a cafe based in Kuala Lumpur. Due to the pandemic COVID-19, they had temporarily closed the operation but instead, they started to run as the live music venue for Jam Sessions & Jazz Night. Jaotim has gathered the local musicians to perform live on their Facebook and Youtube daily. Each live performance took an average of two and a half hours.  Besides, they also set up a fund to help the musicians and live performances to pass through the tough times.
